About myself.

Through the years I have had many interests and hobbies. I have always been interested in technology, architecture, industrial design, and history. I am a bit of a gadget geek.

Hobbies do or have included:

Photography (several times in my life)

Scuba Diving (its been a long time) I started in high school.

Bicycling

Technology, both modern and ancient:
Computers
Weapon systems
Architecture, both the art and tech.
Guns. I was raised in the Army, but do not collect guns.
Marine Biology (my first major)
Science fiction, the hard stuff not the Hollywood version.
Sci-Fi movies
Music: renaissance, baroque, classical, rock, and pop. A little of everything. Generally speaking, I am not an opera fan.

Every man has something about him self he feels will scare every woman on the planet away. Most of us keep our mouths shut.

Question: What do a thousand men in a room with one attractive woman instantly have in common?

Answer: They have all been out flanked, out maneuvered, out smarted, out conned, and defeated. Only one man knows it and he's smart enough to keep his mouth shut!

The purpose of the section is full disclosure and honesty. I could keep this a secret and most men would! However, it would neither be honorable nor good for anyone involved. Those women who are frightened off will probably fall in one or several categories:
1) Those simply frightened of someone who is different.
2) Those with preconceived ideas or limited experience.
3) The shallow.
4) Those who are exhausted by bad experiences in their lives and are trying to heal. I understand this situation.
5) Women afraid of anything but a superficial relationship with little real emotional responsibility.
6) Women who are fearful of life in general. These ladies, understandably, are looking for "a sure thing". I can't blame them.
7) The unintelligent or ignorant women who think Einstein is a rock band.

I have a visual impairment. My field of vision is very narrow. Driving is out of the question for me, except in the most extreme emergencies. I use technology and determination to see small print. So, it's time for those who need to or want to ....exit the profile.

Those who have stayed consider this:

I was raised in the Army as an only child. Most of the places I lived as a boy had "Fort" in front of the name (Fort Sam, Fort Hood, Fort Benning, Fort Riley- you get the idea. One exception was Proseidio in San Francisco)

My father was a decorated, retired combat soldier and combat medic, with four years in the thick of things. Common sense would have told anybody they should have died on many occasions. I guess he did not have any common sense, because he lived through them.

My mother was as steel magnolia from Mississippi. She is the one to whom I owe most of my education. Not to mention encouragement to try new things. When I was six she sat patiently as my father and grandfather put me in my first go-cart. My mother probably chewed her nails to the quick, but she never anything but "go!".

I guess you might say:
My father taught me people, guns, knives, hunting, mechanics, fishing, to invent what I needed, and to think on my feet.

My mother introduced me to music, art, literature, and civilization in general. She taught me to fight for myself, my family, what I wanted, and not to give-up easily!

What do my vision limitations mean in everyday life? I don't drive. It takes me longer to read something. I had to fight people and institutions for an education. I have learned to solve unusual problems, which is what I do for an living.

With regards to not driving- I have hired drivers, a spouse does most of the driving or a friend drives me. I make sure these people know they can count on me as well!

In college I drove a moped (yes, without a license). One of my professors said: "Let me know when your on the road. I'm going to hide in the basement."

Why do I give you all of this information?

I feel its a point of honor and pride that I do not easily give-up on the people in my life. Certainly not without a great deal of pain.

Intelligent, attractive, professional, mischievous, spirited but gentle, and willing to be a partner in my fledgling tech consulting business or I in hers. My view of women is somewhat different than many men's. While I am very protective of the women in my life and I see no reason why an intelligent, attractive and loyal wife should not hide her beauty. If on an appropriate beach, there is no reason she should not go topless if she wishes or wear a very sexy dress to the symphony, if she is so disposed.
